If a child was not scholastic he could still be special in another arena

Many years ago I realized that one of my children would always be challenged in school due to his learning disabilities.

This drove me crazy. In Texas where I grew up, we had many other avenues to excel in, like student government, sports, theater, sciences, etc.

If a child was not scholastic he could still be special in another arena.

After serious consideration I started a chug and called it the Knife and Fire Chug.

My reasoning was that I have unique skills that I have developed over a lifetime in the woods. Why not try to teach these skills to my son and his friends and see where it goes?

I will not take all of the credit but that son is a leader in every setting and the chug helped him a lot!

To hear a child say that at the end of the year field trip, the Rebbe could not light the BBQ and then that 8 year old child lit the BBQ and saved the day and was looked up to by his whole class and the Rebbe, that is what we are all about!

That child was rarely noticed for his scholastic achievements. But on that day, his skills were recognized. That success breeds more success!
